My Current Favourite Foundations

There are 100s, nay, 1000s of foundations available on the market. How are you supposed to find the best foundation for your skin when there is just too much on offer? Thankfully you don’t need to spend a fortune on base products now to get a flawless, long wearing foundation. Drugstore foundations are absolutely amazing now. So, one of the ways I select is by scouring the drugstore (and watching hours upon hours of YouTube of course). I actually think all of my favourite foundations are budget now and I’ve been rotating between a selection of them for ages now.

One of my absolute favourite foundations that is long wearing, medium-buildable and gives a natural yet flawless look is the surprisingly good Primark Double Coverage Matte foundation (the Estee Lauder dupe, but better I think). But a woman likes to have choices. I had heard about how amazing these two foundations are so of course I had to find out.

You can probably see how much I’ve used of the much lauded CYO Long Lasting Foundation so I have a good handle on how much I love this base. I had put off trying CYO foundation for ages but finally picked it up after seeing it again and again on YouTube as being an especially good foundation for older skin. I’m only 42 so not strictly in the age range I had been seeing (over 60s btw) but I’ve been hankering for a base that is slightly dewy, natural and is long-wearing. And given that CYO comes in at under £10 it’s not such a big loss if I didn’t like it. The glowing reviews are not wrong! CYO Long Lasting foundation is a beauty of a foundation and definitely one of the best budget foundations I’ve tried. The formula is thickish, it’s not runny but it doesn’t apply cakey and smooths out beautifully to give a good medium buildable coverage. The finish of this foundation gives a natural glow that gives the skin a nice radiance. Oily skin types might need to powder a bit more as I did find that this gets more dewy throughout the day (I have combination skin but leaning towards normal with a slightly oily t-zone at the moment, for reference). If the skin is prepped nicely I think this would be a great foundation for dry skin types and normal skin types will especially adore this foundation. My only complaint about CYO Long Lasting foundation is the seriously limited shade selection but other than that this is one of the best drugstore foundations I’ve tried! I also ummed and ahhed about buying the much hyped L’Oreal Infallible 24h Fresh Wear foundation. Primarily because it’s by L’Oreal. It is, however, another beautiful drugstore foundation. High end foundations need to be especially good now or their packaging very striking because price really does not dictate how good the formula is. It shouldn’t be surprising that a budget foundation from L’Oreal is good though, they own all the beauty brands and have access to the best cutting-edge research and it shows. The new L’Oreal Infallible 24h Fresh Wear foundation is described as full coverage but I’d say it looks best at a solid medium coverage. A little bit of this liquid foundation goes a really long way. It’s super pigmented yet gives a fresh (hence the name!), natural and dewy glow. It blends out flawlessly and evens out skin tone. I think this is particularly good for drier skin types and normal skin types. Oily skins might find this overly dewy though but with some good prepping and setting this might very well work for you. L’Oreal Infallible 24h Fresh Wear foundation isn’t the longest wearing foundation I’ve tried and does slightly oxidise on me making the lightest shade slightly too dark for very pale skin. It does have a good shade selection though, better than CYO, so you should be able to find a colour to suit you. I love this foundation for days when I am feeling more under the weather than usual. It adds a lovely fresh glow that counters dull, tired looking skin. Again, this would definitely enter into my favourite drugstore foundation list!
