Still on the lookout for a Christmas present? I don’t think you can go wrong with the Cool Girl fragrances from Maison Margiela. If you’re on Instagram I’m sure you’ll have come across the indredibly stylish Maison Margiela bottles on some very stylish woman’s dressing table. I bought the lovely Maison Margiela Memory Box, which contains 10 of the Replica fragrances.

Maison Margiela Replica Review

I love these little discovery boxes. I think it’s a great introduction to a brand without paying a fortune for something that you either don’t like that much or don’t wear enough of. Maison Margiela’s Memory Box discovery set contains 10 of the scents from the Replica range. These scents are evocative of different places and memories. I thought this was a similar idea to the clever Histoires de Parfums. Fragrance has the amazing ability to tap into our memories. If i get a whiff of Insette hairspray I’m immediately taken back to my early teenage years.

List of Maison Margiela Fragrances

This time-travelling is what Maison Margiela’s Memory Box has tapped into. There are 10 fragrances to transport you to a different time and place. From the John Lewis website:

Flower Market combines a floral accord of Grasse rose petals, Sambac jasmine, and tuberose with cedar and moss notes to recreate the memory of walking through a bustling flower market in Paris
Jazz Club delivers a woody, oriental, sweet, addictive scent. The balmy base, with Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Vetiver and Tobacco combine to create a melody of liquor and leather
Beach Walk combines fresh and radiant notes of bergamot, coconut milk, lemon, pink pepper, and musk to capture the carefree bliss of a summer’s day on the beach
Under The Lemon Trees is a combination of invigorating citruses complemented by the earthy freshness of green tea extract, coriander and woody extracts from both cedarwood and white musks

Other Perfume Discovery Sets

I’m a big fan of fresh, citrus scents. One of my absolute favourite perfumes is Le Labo Bergamote 22. So I really like the fresh orange and lemon scents of Beach Walk and Under the Lemon Tree.

I think the most iconic of the 10 has to be By the Fireplace. I was excited to try this as I’ve seen it raved about so much. Personally this isn’t for me. It kind of smells like I’ve been standing next to a bonfire when I wear it. However, as a perfume it’s impressive. The accords in this are striking and complex. If you love a strong woody, heady scent I think you’ll love this. My husband really likes it though. And this is another great thing about the Maison Margiela fragrances, they’re unisex.

The Maison Margiela Memory Box set is a nice introduction to the Replica range from the designer. For me, the scents are just a little too heady and not clean enough for me. I prefer Le Labo fragrances. They’re crisper and clearer, I think. But that’s just purely down to my taste. There is nothing wrong with Maison Margiela fragrances. The notes are interesting and strong with a good wear time. The full size bottles are absolutely gorgeous. If I was buying a full size I would personally go for the softer scents of Whispers in the Library, Lazy Sunday Morning and Under the Lemon Tree (my favourite, I think, for now anyway!).
