Revolution Pro New Neutral Lipstick

It’s the weekend! Which means it’s “Downtime” on my blog. So this is something I’m going to do from now on-time willing! The idea is that every weekend we’ll focus on little treats such as beauty products, or food, or drink, or anything else that gives us pleasure in this life. I am a firm believer that even small things like a brand new red lipstick just makes life a little bit better.

So first up are these amazing new Revolution Pro New Neutral Lipsticks (PR sample). I have a bit of a soft spot for Revolution Pro and their sister brands (you can see in my eyeshadow post here or my other post on Revolution Pro here). I think they offer high quality makeup products at budget prices, plus they’re cruelty-free and often vegan-friendly. Of course not everything is a hit but I’m really impressed with these new satin matte lipsticks.

As the name suggests the formula is ….satin and….matte. Which translates as being semi-matte. So if you love a matte lipstick but don’t like the dryness – or have dry lips- this formula might be perfect for you! I have two shades out of the six available and I’m pretty certain I’ll be adding some more to my little collection.

Let’s start with the stunning Revolution Pro New Neutral Lipstick in Stiletto (above red lipstick). This is an incredible budget red lipstick. It could *almost* be a good dupe for MAC Ruby Woo, it’s certainly like it in colour but Revolution Pro is actually more moisturising than MAC’s notoriously dry matte formula. Stiletto is a beautiful red lipstick and if you’re a red aficionado I think you’d especially love this in your collection.

This is a true classic red that wouldn’t be out of place on a Hollywood star in the 1950s. This is your defining bombshell red. I do find it leans slightly blue but I think pretty much any skin tone could pull this universal red lipstick off. With one application you have full opacity. I don’t find this as to be as long wearing as a MAC matte due to its satin finish but it still lasts ages. It’s a cracker of a red, I’m really impressed!

The other shade of Revolution Pro New Neutral Lipstick I have is Velvet. This actually reminds me of another MAC cult classic- Twig. I think it might have more pink in it, although I haven’t worn Twig for a while but looking at swatches it certainly looks very similar. Velvet is a beautiful mid-toned neutral mauve which I have been wearing practically everyday since receiving it. Again this is a richly pigmented creamy satin matte that feels much more expensive than the drugstore price tag (currently £5 at Superdrug).

I haven’t forgot to talk about the packaging, isn’t it fabulous? Gold case with animal print feels very fancy fancy. The lids stay on nicely so you shouldn’t have any handbag mishaps. So for a budget lipstick these are pretty amazing and one of the best drugstore lipsticks I’ve tried recently (along with these brilliant NYX lipsticks). Super-pigmented, comfortable and long-wearing with amazing colour selection. What’s not to love?
