Sometimes in life kismet, destiny, or fate takes over. However you name it, the stars align and they shine upon you. This recently happened to me. I was busy googling the best electric toothbrushes when I received an email notification. I clicked open that email with anticipation where I found an offer to try Sanyei ION-Sei Sonic Toothbrush*. Surely this was meant to be? So of course I accepted.

There are lots of reasons why I like Sanyei ION-Sei Sonic Toothbrush. I was initially interested in their to-be patented ionic technology. Sanyei ION-Sei use ions to inhibit the growth of bacteria. I was a little dubious about this initially but there are studies out there (like this one) that seem to show that ionic toothbrushes significantly reduce the build up of plaque and therefore increase mouth health. Ionic toothbrushes like Sanyei ION-Sei work by inhibiting the attachment of plaque onto the teeth. The negative ions created by Sanyei ION-Sei toothbrush repel the positively charged plaque (you can read more about that here) and this stops plaque attaching to your teeth and causing all kinds of horrible problems. It also means you don’t actually need to use toothpaste because your teeth have nothing to clean on them. (Note, I still do use toothpaste because I’m not a monster!).

This sonic toothbrush doesn’t have rotary heads like most electric toothbrushes. Instead the head looks like a standard manual toothbrush yet it provides 31,000 mini strokes/vibrations to deeply cleanse your teeth and gums while remaining gentle. The Sanyei ION-Sei leaves your mouth feeling super clean and that clean feeling lasts for a while longer than a manual toothbrush and any other electric toothbrushes I’ve used. I’m guessing that extra clean feeling is largely down to the ions. It almost feels like a thorough clean from your dentist.

Sanyei ION-Sei toothbrush comes with 2 brush heads, one with firmer bristles and the other much softer. Both heads can be kept upon the small USB charging cradle. There’s three settings; one for sensitive/gentle cleansing, standard cleansing and a deep cleanse. All settings give a good clean. Another reason why I like this toothbrush is that it’s very comfortable to use. I have arthritis in both my hands so brushing my teeth can be difficult. The Sanyei ION-Sei toothbrush is lightweight and feels comfortable to use. The only thing I’m not keen on is the price. Sanyei ION-Sei toothbrush is not cheap but you are paying for this new(ish) ionic technology.
