I love a bold lip but I never really used too. I properly started wearing makeup in the 90s and my look was a nude lip with smudged black liner. I was very grunge and Nirvana ruled my world. Then during my 20s I was in hospital a lot or recovering from being in hospital and makeup was just a pain, often quite literally (I was in a serious road crash then I had major spinal surgery). Unsurprisingly, due to the stress and pushing myself too much my mental health took a huge plummet. For me, starting to wear bright lip colours is intrinsically linked to my recovery from panic disorder and agoraphobia.
I also love seeing a bold lip on other women, especially older women. It’s a small f**k you to the world: I might be older but I’ll look however I want. And that’s empowering. Seemingly small gestures can have huge effects. So when I first saw the new Bobbi Brown Art Stick Liquid Lip in Hot Tangerine I knew it had to be mine. It’s a glorious orange/red (more orange that red though) that looks absolutely amazing on.
The super-pigmented formula of the Bobbi Brown Liquid Art stick is semi-matte but I found if you pat it down a bit with tissue (powder might actually work too) it goes much more matte. The formula applies easy from the squeezy tube but if you want a more precise finish a lip brush would be ideal. It’s a very creamy formula that never entirely dries down on the lips and can feel a little bit sticky but I don’t mind that. There is a lot of transfer from this though but I feel it’s worth it. Bobbi Brown Liquid Art stick also wears very well. It didn’t last through a full meal but drinks and snacks are fine. It’s both brightening for the face and soul.
If you don’t want a bright/bold lip or you just want to buy a couple there’s 16 colours to choose from so there’s definitely something for everyone. Hot Tangerine seems to be selling out everywhere so get it fast. It’s a beaut of a colour, especially for summer. (buy it here– John Lewis currently have it in stock with 10% off)
