Is anyone else still struggling to get going this year? January is such a long and miserable month but I have been trying to make it a little better by making cinemagraphs on my Instagram. The next step is to try proper ones and to start using Photoshop, oh also I want to try stop motion (among with a million other things). So if you have any good tutorials or apps for a beginner I’d love to hear them!
I started the year trying out new skin care. I have tried several Dermalogica products previously and one of my favourites is the Daily Microfoliant (there’s also a smaller version available). It is one of the best manual exfoliators I have ever tried, it leaves the skin smooth and bright. Highly recommended. I’ve been trying out several products thanks to Influenster, I’ll start with the new Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse Balm*. This is an amazing balm-to-oil cleanser, it removes absolutely everything while leaving the skin soft. It’s part of Dermalogica’s double cleanse routine but this definitely works on its own without any further cleansing, but if you are into double cleansing this is a brilliant first step in your routine. Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse Balm is also available in a smaller tube for travel or to try out, more brands should offer this!
Next up is Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel*. This is a gentle foaming face wash formulated without soap and I’ve been loving using it as my morning cleanser. It doesn’t strip the skin instead my skin feels soft and moisturised. When I’ve used this up I will be buying another.
Demalogica do exfoliators really well and I’ve been enjoying using their Daily Superfoliant*. This is one of the best exfoliators I’ve ever used. It contains activated Binchotan charcoal to purify and to help protect the skin it also contains niacinamide (vitamin B3), red algae and tara fruit. To use you put around half a teaspoonful of the granules (which smell amazing btw) on very wet hands and make into a paste. My skin is super smooth after; incredibly soft and brighter, I *will* be buying this again. The full size is very pricey but it will last ages but there is a smaller one available too.
And finally is Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream*. This has been developed to rehydrate skin, increase elasticity and help protect the skin’s barrier against free radicals. Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream contains arnica, mallow, cucumber, aloe gel and lecithin (this attracts water and fatty substances to plump the skin). This is aimed at dehydrated and dry skin types, which I don’t have (I am sensitive/combination). So the feel is a little too much for my skin but my husband has been using it and he loves it. It sinks in easily, feels very moisturising and leaves the skin silky smooth- in fact this would be a great primer for drier skin types. It does have a kind of herbal-y cucumber smell due to the ingredients, there’s not artificial fragrance here. It doesn’t suit my skin type but I can spot a good moisturiser when I see one, and this is definitely a good moisturiser. (Personally, I have been loving Beauty Pie’s skin care).
I am really impressed with the Dermalogica products I’ve tried. Their no-fuss unisex packaging doesn’t scream pretty nor high-end, rather they let they ingredients work and speak for themselves. Dermalogica is also cruelty-free and take part in a sustainable form of farming palm oil that doesn’t impact wildlife negatively.
Have you tried Dermalogica products?
*I was given this through the Influenster programme, all my thoughts very much my own.
